Abstract

In the era of technological development, knowledge and profound transformations witnessed by the current business and financial environment, various institutions are seeking to develop their capabilities and competencies to distinguish themselves from other competing institutions. Therefore, the study aimed to identify and analyze the concept of competitive advantage for economic institutions by focusing on studying the concept, importance, methods and requirements for achieving competitive advantage, in addition to studying its measurement indicators and determinants, and focusing on the importance of the role played by the competitive advantage of economic institutions in achieving sustainable development. The study relied on the descriptive approach as a basic approach, and the study included three sections, the first: an analytical framework for the concepts of competitive advantage, the second section: the concept and goals of sustainable development, while the third section dealt with: the competitive advantage of the economic institution and its role in achieving sustainable development. In light of this, the study reached a number of conclusions, the most important of which was that economic institutions achieve a competitive advantage through the optimal exploitation of human, financial and material resources. The study concluded that economic institutions need to acquire and develop a competitive advantage in order to ensure continued success in the presence of a highly competitive environment, and a set of proposals were presented to achieve the competitiveness of economic institutions in achieving sustainable development.
